Why your product choices matter
I'm pulling together some information to share in tonight's webinar event to educate and celebrate (two things that often don't go together, but I believe ought to).
I'm celebrating that another friend has decided to join the Better Beauty movement and that Beautycounter will be available in Sephora stores starting next month!
And I'm educating on why it matters what your personal care product choices are.
Here are a few things to know:
Exposure to commonly-used toxic ingredients during pregnancy can lead to early puberty in females: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2730250
Your toxic load includes what you breathe in, and this has shown to be more toxic in black communities: https://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/pdf/10.2105/AJPH.2017.304297
Exposure to phthalates during pregnancy can have neurodevelopmental consequences in offspring: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0013935116306624?via%3Dihub
Johnson & Johnson (who is set to release a vaccine this year for the c-thing that I'm not trying to get censored for talking about) ended the sale of their talc-based baby powders this year due to asbestos. Do you know how long those were on the market before they got recalled? Do you know how many times J&J has been found to have been selling harmful products to its consumers? Whew: https://www.ewg.org/release/major-win-consumers-johnson-johnson-ends-sale-talc-based-baby-powders
Nine out of 52 cosmetics products tested showed asbestos. This includes CHILDREN'S TOY MAKEUP, facial powders, eye shadows, etc.: https://www.ewg.org/release/fda-tests-find-asbestos-nearly-20-percent-cosmetics-products
The last law governing the cosmetics industry was passed in 1938. Do you think there's a reason why J&J's products weren't recalled sooner? Hmmm: https://www.fda.gov/about-fda/fdas-evolving-regulatory-powers/part-ii-1938-food-drug-cosmetic-act
Now you have a bit of homework that you can get working on. This is a short list. But hopefully it brings some new information to light for you.
I always say: Awareness brings choice. Choice is better than no choice.
Now that you've been made aware of some of the serious dangers in your environment, what choices do you have?
What choices do you want to make?
What do you want to change?
What do you want to stay the same?
See you soon!
Hugs,
Lindsay
