Lessons from My Son for Health and Happiness
My son is now 3 1/2 months old, and in the past 15 weeks, I've learned (or been gently reminded) a lot about patience, priorities, perspective, and life in general (I had to say "life in general" because that list was beginning to sound a little too Mr. Popper's Penguins). His lessons work well for overall health benefits. I've decided to jot a few of these things down. These are in no particular order.1. Eat locally. Everybody wins.2. Admire yourself in the mirror. Face it: you're pretty cute.3. Be comfortable with your naked self. Enough said.4. If you're unhappy about something, let people know. No sense hiding your feelings.5. When you're unsure of something, chew on it. If you're under two, you can take this advice literally. Older than two: it's a metaphor.6. Only smile when you're truly happy. No one likes a phony.7. If you don't trust someone, don't let them hold you. (Even if they ask nicely.)8. Don't be afraid to poop in public places. It's better than holding it in, and people usually find it funny.9. Listen to your body instead of watching the clock: eat when you're hungry and sleep when you're tired. Who cares if it's not "lunch time" or "nap time"?10. Find what makes you happy and do it often. (This can apply to #9.)11. Don't be sedentary. If you're awake, you should be moving.12. Read books often. It's fun and makes you smarter.13. Stretch when you wake up. It's a good way to start the day.My dear little one teaches me new things everyday, but these lessons are pretty applicable to a wide audience. Apply them ASAP for a happier, healthier life. :-)
